"I aim for my work to evoke geologic time, evolutionary processes, and metamorphosis. My painting process—applying, drying, scraping, and reapplying—reflects the cycles of growth and decay, buildup and erosion, creation and destruction. Each painting becomes a world unto itself, where light, space, and color create an experience as vivid as the physical world itself.
My process is an enthralling struggle to create structure and clarity out of change and chaos."
Joel Longenecker, born in 1963 in Lancaster, PA, is a graduate of the Tyler School of Art at Temple University (BFA), the University of Michigan (MFA), and the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture.
